A custom person or pet figurine can be a thoughtful gift for parents and older relatives, partners and friends, pet owners, or graduates who enjoy personal keepsakes. Before choosing one, make sure the recipient likes this kind of gift and feels good about the moment you want to preserve. A close relationship or a special occasion cannot tell you what someone would actually like.

To maintain model quality, we currently accept custom orders featuring one person or one pet only. We do not yet offer figurines of couples, groups, or people and pets together. A shared experience can still give a single-subject figurine its meaning.

Before giving this kind of gift, consider a few questions. Does the recipient enjoy displaying photos of themselves? Do they collect meaningful keepsakes? Do they like marking important moments in their life? Then ask them directly how they feel about a custom figurine. The situations below are general examples.

If your parent or older relative enjoys preserving memories, a custom person figurine could be a good fit. When choosing a gift for a parent, for example, a birthday or retirement can be an opportunity to ask which chapter of their life they would most like to capture.

Perhaps everyone in the family loves an old photo of your mother when she was young, but she prefers a picture of herself looking relaxed on a trip after retirement. In that case, follow her preference. An older photo is not automatically the right choice simply because it feels more nostalgic. Many people would rather preserve who they are today than how they looked in their youth.

Before ordering, you could ask, “Of these photos, which one shows the version of yourself you would most like to remember?” Also check whether they would welcome a figurine of themselves and feel comfortable displaying it in their everyday surroundings. Their age or place in the family does not answer either question.

Which Shared Memories Work Best for a Custom Gift for Your Partner?

Choose an experience you both treasure, and make sure your partner likes how they appear in the photo. A trip, an anniversary, or a hobby you share can all provide inspiration. If your first trip together means a lot to you both and your partner likes a photo from that time, you could use their appearance in that photo for the figurine. You do not need to include everyone who came on the trip.

What matters is whether the memory also makes your partner happy. An expression you find attractive may not be one they like. An outfit you consider memorable may be one they would rather not revisit. Even when you know each other well, it is still worth checking.

The same applies when choosing a custom gift for a friend. Ask two separate questions: do they enjoy collecting figurines, and would they want one of themselves? Someone may love figurines without wanting their own likeness on display. Even if they would be happy to receive one, they might prefer to keep it somewhere private. Understanding their preferences is more helpful than planning a surprise without knowing how they feel.

A pet figurine could suit someone who already enjoys collecting pet-related keepsakes and likes decorative figurines. A pet’s birthday, adoption anniversary, or another year together can be a lovely occasion to celebrate that companionship.

Before choosing a photo, think about the moments the owner often mentions. Is it how tiny their pet looked when they first came home, or the familiar way they sit today? These are memories from different stages of life; neither is inherently better. Listening to the owner will help you choose an image that means the most to them.

If the figurine is intended to commemorate a pet who has died, ask first whether the owner would welcome this kind of remembrance and whether now feels like the right time. Some people find comfort in seeing a familiar likeness; others may not feel ready. That choice belongs to them. If they have not clearly expressed a wish for such a gift, prioritize being present and listening. Avoid arranging an unexpected “comfort gift,” and do not assume a figurine will ease their grief.

Is a Custom Person Figurine a Good Graduation Gift?

If the graduate is comfortable with a figurine of themselves and would like a physical keepsake of their student years, it could be a good choice. You could use their graduation photo or another photo they like that represents those years.

Ask whether they would rather remember the graduation ceremony itself or their everyday life as a student. Some people love the cap-and-gown look; others prefer an image of themselves in everyday clothes.

If the graduate is about to move and would rather not acquire more belongings, a practical gift may be more suitable.

We currently offer figurines of individual graduates only. We cannot yet create a group figurine featuring multiple people from a graduation photo.

What Should You Check Before Ordering a Custom Gift?

Along with the recipient’s preferences, confirm that you have permission to use the photo and the person’s likeness, and consider whether the gift needs to arrive by a particular date.

When using someone else’s photo and likeness, you must obtain their consent for the photo to be used for AI processing, 3D modeling, and physical printing. If the person is a minor, obtain consent from their parent or legal guardian. See our Terms of Service for details. A close relationship does not remove the need for permission.
