Why Full-Color 3D Printed Figurines Can Look Different from the Preview—and What to Do
The colors of a full-color 3D printed figurine are created during printing. But “full-color” does not mean the finished piece can reproduce every color on your phone screen exactly.
Printing: How Color Becomes Part of Your Figurine
What is a full-color 3D printed figurine?
Linxi’s full-color figurines are made from photosensitive resin that is cured using light. Your phone screen emits light to display color, while a resin figurine reflects the light around it. As the lighting changes, the colors you see can change too.
This means that “full-color printing” does not guarantee an exact match between the colors on your phone and those of the finished piece. Before you place your order, we will confirm the model’s overall appearance and intended color palette with you. However, we cannot guarantee a perfect color match.
Does a full-color figurine need to be painted by hand after printing?
The colors of Linxi’s full-color figurines are created during printing; they do not rely on hand painting afterward. Hand painting and full-color printing are different production methods. The method alone does not determine whether a finished piece has a quality issue.
When choosing a full-color resin figurine, consider two separate questions: which production method you prefer, and which color palette you want. The finished colors may appear darker or lighter, so the name of the process alone cannot tell you exactly how they will look.
Refinement: Improving the Model Without Guaranteeing an Exact Color Match
Can AI-assisted modeling and manual refinement eliminate color differences?
No. Linxi’s refinement process includes adjusting model details, checking the structure, and resolving geometry issues that could affect printing. It cannot eliminate color differences entirely.
If a particular color is especially important to you, please explain your requirements to our customer support team and confirm whether that color can be reproduced before the finished piece is shipped.
Does manual refinement happen before or after payment?
In Linxi’s custom portrait figurine process, you first review the style image and an initial 3D model, then choose the options for your physical figurine and complete payment. Manual refinement begins after payment.
Please note that viewing a completed 3D model preview does not mean you have placed an order.
You have 48 hours to review each refined proof and submit adjustment feedback. If you submit feedback within that window, the current approval period pauses. A new 48-hour review window begins when the next refined proof is presented. If the deadline passes without feedback, the proof may be treated as approved and enter production. For details, please read our Terms of Service.
Review: Why the Preview Still Matters
What should I check in my custom figurine’s 3D preview?
Start with the likeness, pose, and proportions. Then check the clothing colors, hair color, and any details you specifically requested. For example, if your reference shows a cream-colored top and a dark long skirt, does the model preserve the combination you wanted?
The colors shown in the 3D preview may not exactly match those of the finished figurine. If the preview does not reflect what you have in mind, please raise your concerns before the model is finalized. Once the figurine has been printed, we can no longer make changes to that piece.
What if the color difference is significant? When should I contact support?
First, compare the figurine with the final version you approved and your order description. Is the overall color slightly lighter or darker, or is there a clear difference in the specified color palette, the person depicted, or their features? This comparison helps explain the issue—you do not need to identify its technical cause.
If you suspect a manufacturing defect or a substantial mismatch with the approved design, report it within 14 days of receiving your order, in accordance with our Refund & Return Policy. Please include:
- Your order number.
- Photos of the figurine, packaging, and shipping label.
- A comparison with the final version you approved.
Minor color differences are not considered quality defects. Whether a repair, remake, or refund is appropriate will depend on the circumstances of your case.
